The Axiom Burn-In Timer (B.I.T) is intended for use where various devices (such as specialist audio equipment) have to be 'burned-in' for various periods of time.
Burn-in is a process whereby special components have the opportunity of bedding themselves into their new environment within equipment. The process is essential with some components such as Black Gate capacitors (which can take up to 800 hours to fully settle) etc.
Burn-In Timer's first incarnation was very simple but, to make it more worthwhile, useable, and saleable, I have added more features to it to make it generally more useful.
As well as simply keeping tabs on the amount of time equipment has been switched on, Burn-In Timer also allows a number of other features...
Ideally, burn-in should be a continuous process. However, this is not always feasible so B.I.T. allows you to log equipment as being switched off and will take this into account for its calculations.
It is possible to specify an alert time for any of the devices in the main list. Once the specified number of hours has been reached, a visual warning will appear in the list, next to the device. Alerts are useful for a number of reasons. They can be used to specify the total burn-in time required for a device in the case of a production line. They can also be used for review purposes. Reviewing devices at pre-defined periods during the burn-in process can be quite fascinating and reveiling. To further enhance review possibilities, B.I.T. also provides the ability to associate timed comments with the device...
Comments can be associated with devices. Two types of comments are available - a general comment and time-associated comments. The first use I had for B.I.T. was to write a review of an AudioNote CDT-One CD Transport. During its burn-in period, I was able to document the changes that the equipment went through during that period, which proved to be very interesting. The comments can also be included in a printed report if required.
B.I.T. provides the ability to produce reports about your devices. A simple on-screen report is its most basic method. However, it also allows you to printout more complex, configurable reports that can be used for a number of purposes. As well as a simple printout, I wanted to allow companies to use B.I.T. to produce burn-in certificates. For this reason, I added the ability to enhance printed reports with customizable headers, sign-off boxes etc.
Archiving a device forces it to be frozen in time and removes it from the main list of devices. You can still view and print reports about the device but you can no longer re-activate it. Again, its use is mainly intended for companies who may be dealing with many devices in an on-going manner, and is an alternative to deleting the device.
When first downloaded, B.I.T. defaults to a 28-day evaluation period (that's enough for up to a 672 hour continuous burn-in period for as many devices as you wish).
Once that time has been exceeded (or during that period if required), you can purchase an unlock code to fully open the software. Because it can be used to produce certificates, reports produced in an unlocked state appear with a background that informs the recipient that it was produced from a review edition of software.
The price to fully open Burn-in Timer is $9.99 (US Dollars). A link to the purchase website is available from within the evaluation software.
